On entering my third week of the Community Internship in Playa Del Carmen, I am continuing to have the time of my life. During this week I have spent most of my days at the Ludoteca where I have been able to help the children with homework, deliver a Green Action class and play with the children in the spare time. The Ludoteca is a fantastic experience, allowing you to both immerse yourself in a different culture and practice your Spanish, and of course meet some amazing children full of enthusiasm and eagerness to learn.
Outside of my commitment to the project I’ve participated in the weekly Mexican cooking class, where all the volunteers work together to prepare traditional Mexican cuisine. I’ve also had plenty of opportunities to explore Playa’s beaches in my free time on weekdays, and also explore further afield at the weekends. In the two weeks I have been here, I have visited some unforgettable places, including Tulum, Coba, Isla Mujeres, Peurto Morelos, Cenote Azul and Cenote Dos Ojos. So far GVI has provided me with a fantastic opportunity to meet some amazing people, make a difference within the local community and the chance to emerge myself in a vibrant and exciting culture.
