Why did you apply for the internship with GVI? I applied for the Internship because when I reached the age of 30, I realised there was so much more to see and do in the world. I became bored of my normal 9 to 5 job, and I needed a new challenge in my life. I lived in my home town for over 30 years. I didn’t want to live in that bubble any longer. How did you find it? It was one of the best decisions I have ever made. I met fellow volunteers from all over the world, and made new friends. It was really intense for the first 4 weeks. As soon as I got into the flow, I enjoyed every minute of it. What is your reflection on what you got out of it? I have become more confident in public speaking. Who would have thought this time last year I would achieved so much. I had no experience of teaching before I came here. But with plenty of hard work and help from the GVI staff I have now gained experience. What do you hope to do in the future? I am already coming back in July to become Community Field Staff. I now think it is the right time to take the next step. I have enjoyed the intern/ volunteer experience, but now want to lead volunteers.
