The historic centre of Mexico City is home to some of the country’s most admired monuments, and many of its oldest buildings. You can explore the National Palace (Palacio Nacional), or visit the enormous plaza known as the Zocalo (more officially known as Plaza de la Constitucion). The Zocalo is home to the Metropolitan Cathedral, among other important sites. If you’re looking for culture, music and great food, check out the nearby Plaza Garibaldi or La Merced. The vicinity of Alameda Central has outdoor crafts markets, some of Mexico City’s largest nightclubs and numerous beautiful parks.
The historic centre of Mexico City is also home to some of the city’s most iconic museums, such as the National Museum of Anthropology and the Museum of Modern Art. There are also many smaller, lesser-known museums, such as the Museum of Popular Art and the Museum of the City. Whether you’re looking for culture, history, or just a great time, the historic centre of Mexico City has something for everyone.
