Mexico is a land of remarkable biodiversity, teeming with a wide variety of unique and fascinating animals. From the iconic monarch butterfly to the majestic jaguar, Mexico’s wildlife is a true wonder to behold.

Below we look at some of the most notable animals native to Mexico, and explore the efforts being made to protect and conserve these magnificent creatures.

Monarch butterflies

One of Mexico’s most famous and beloved creatures is the monarch butterfly. These stunning insects are known for their incredible migration patterns, travelling thousands of miles each year between their summer breeding grounds in Canada and their winter habitats in Mexico. The monarch butterfly’s habitat in Mexico is crucial to the species’ survival, and efforts are underway to protect and conserve this precious resource.

Jaguars

Another species of special significance to Mexico is the jaguar.
