So you’re travelling to Ghana (hopefully on one of GVI’s community programs, but maybe just for a holiday)? Here’s everything you need to know before you arrive in Ghana – the gateway to Africa.

Visa Requirements

The majority of visitors to Ghana are required to obtain a visa prior to arrival. Visas are valid for three months and can be obtained through the Embassy of Ghana or online at the Ghana Immigration Service website. Depending on your nationality, some visas require additional documents in order to be approved. Be sure to check with the Embassy or Immigration Service before applying for a visa.

It is important to note that visa requirements can change at any time, so it is important to check the most up-to-date information before applying for a visa. Additionally, some visas may require a fee to be paid, so be sure to check the cost of the visa before submitting your application.

Don’t worry, if you are travelling to Ghana with GVI, your trusty enrolment officer will guide you through the visa process and make sure you have all the documentation you need before entering the country.

Health and Vaccination Requirements

Arriving without the necessary immunizations could be a concern in Ghana and any non-immunized travellers may be required to receive vaccinations upon arrival. Remember to always ensure your routine vaccinations are up to date, including measles, flu and polio. You should also consider speaking with a medical professional or visiting an international healthcare website to find out if any other immunizations are recommended or required based on your destination.

It is also important to be aware of the health risks associated with your destination. Make sure to research the local health conditions and take the necessary precautions to protect yourself. Be sure to bring any necessary medications with you, as well as a first aid kit. Additionally, it is important to be aware of the local laws and regulations regarding health and safety and to follow them accordingly.

Required Documentation

It is important to make sure you have all of the necessary documentation before arriving in Ghana. This includes things such as proof of vaccines, driver’s license and passport. If travelling with children, be sure to have the necessary documentation proving guardianship or custody of them. Additionally, visitors should be prepared to provide accommodation information once arriving at the airport or other port of entry.

Entry and Exit Requirements

It is important to pay close attention to the requirements for entry and exit from Ghana as well. All travellers should be prepared to present their valid passport and supporting documents such as a completed Departure Card (filled out upon arrival) and receipt of payment for any visa fees at their point of departure. Additionally, travelers will be required to answer specific questions related to their purpose in Ghana, length of stay and previous visits.

It is also important to note that travellers may be subject to additional screening and security checks upon entry and exit from Ghana. All travellers should be prepared to present any additional documents or information requested by immigration officials. Furthermore, travellers should be aware that failure to comply with entry and exit requirements may result in fines, delays, or even denial of entry.
