Reflections of Volunteer Time

I had quite a few months since booking my trip to imagine what to expect of Costa Rica in general, and of the projects in particular. But none of my ideas were close to the “amazing-ness” of it all. I was fortunate enough to be there during the Independence Day celebrations, a way to get involved even more with the culture of Costa Rica. I spent most of my time volunteering at El Cocal school, which was such a wonderful experience. The joy and interest of the children was so rewarding, and GVI’s work there truly is extraordinary. I never worked with children before, and see the excitement and the laughs resulting of an activity I helped planning was such a warm feeling in everyone’s heart. The staff’s enthusiasm really made me welcome and willing to give my best to contribute to all the activities both at school and at the volunteers house. The guys at the house were so much fun too and we enjoyed some great excursions on our free time. My only regret is not being able to stay longer!

Pura Vida!
