International Literacy Day 2011

To mark the International Literacy day 2011 the adult community class and GVI volunteer teachers were invited by the Ministry of Education, Directorate of Adult and Continuing Education to attend a full day of celebrations.

Following weeks of intensive preparation, the students presented their professional, powerpoint presentation.

James gave a wonderful speech to the large audience on how much he had learnt attending the classes, all spoken in English. A very proud moment!

The event consisted of other adult education classes from the district doing presentations, sketches and dances to the crowd.

There were lots of VIP guests including the District Commissioner who gave speeches (unfortunately for us they spoke in ki-swahili) however Madam Grace was kind enough to translate for us.

This was a superb occasion highlighting the benefit of adult education, that it is never too late to improve your life and sends the important message to inspire children to improve their education.

Past and present GVI volunteers should feel extremely proud of themselves on the progress that has been achieved in the class since we began providing teaching support six months ago.

The time, effort and patience each volunteer has dedicated is really making a huge improvement to the learning of our students.
