Last night we had a Departure Dinner for our group from Tyne Met College. They arrived on Tuesday and since then have worked tirelessly on project and explored the local area of Gordon’s Bay. It has certainly been a pleasure hosting the group. Two tutors and ten students have all come together and worked as an amazing team and what has impressed me most is the way they have savored and appreciated every moment of the experience. They have worked at our Grade R, Nursery and Ikhayalethemba Sanctuary sites. They have been positive, fun and caring to every child they have come across. Songs, drawings, mask making and plays are only a few of the activities they have done with the children. Each night we have shared a highlight of the day and it’s been difficult to choose every time. My highlight of the week, however, has been just watching this group develop as a team and do the best they can to support the children in the community with some great educational tasks. Our project partners have appreciated the donations of clothes and resources and our future volunteers will ensure the great resources are used effectively.

Today the group head off to Cape Town to see the sites and travel home tomorrow. Thanks for a great time here in Gordon’s Bay guys – Tyne Met College should be very proud of their students and tutors Matty and Charlotte. Safe travels team – we certainly hope to see you all back on some or other GVI program again before long! Enkosi, Thank you!
