Volunteering for Students

Deciding what to do after university can be daunting. Many students leave university wondering what they should do next and are unsure whether to jump straight into a job, to carry on studying or to go travelling. Volunteering abroad allows postgraduates to combine each of these options to gain experience, learn new skills, discover new cultures and see new parts of the world. An ever increasing number of students are discovering the advantages to volunteering overseas, as a large percentage of GVI volunteers are students who join projects straight after university or during their university holidays.

Many students join programmes which are in some way related to their degree course, realising nowadays it is becoming increasingly difficult to get a job without being able to prove that you have some practical experience. Volunteering with GVI allows students to gain practical experience in their chosen fields of study, having amazing new experiences and gaining something brilliant for their CV. So if you have done an education degree, how about following it up with a TEFL course in Thailand or teaching around the world? Or if you’ve studied biology or zoology at university, how do you fancy 10 weeks diving and collecting data in Mexico or studying elephants and leopards in South Africa? In addition, all GVI expeditions offer internships to successful applicants, which can lead to the intern gaining actual work placements overseas.

With such a wide range of programmes available which have a variety of durations and costs, GVI have something to suit every student. Whether you are looking for a break from studying, some practical experience or you want to try out a new career; GVI have the volunteering placement for you.
