Age not an issue

Think you’re too old to volunteer?

Volunteering abroad has seen a phenomenal increase in popularity within the last five years and increasing numbers of people are discovering that volunteering is an exciting, fulfilling and safe way to see the world. As a result, the number of volunteer organisations has also increased which promise to give individuals these experiences; yet at GVI we have found that many of the volunteer programmes these organisations run are only available for people aged 18-30 or are focused on gap year travel.

GVI is proud to be open to anyone and everyone over the age of 18 and whether you are looking for a career break or are a retiree with time to spare, GVI will have a volunteer programme to suit you. GVI volunteer teams always include people with a wide variety of ages, nationalities and backgrounds, which is what makes a GVI experience so unique and diverse.

For a lot of the projects GVI run, we welcome people with specific skills. So if you have been a teacher for 20 years and want to put your teaching skills to good use, how about joining one of a number of volunteer projects that could use your knowledge, such as the community expedition in Thailand or teaching indigenous children in Guatemala? Our office staff will be able to point you in the direction of the programme most suited to your needs. If you would prefer not to be camping on a beach or amongst larger groups, GVI has a selection of projects where the facilities are of better quality and the group size is smaller.
