Orphanage Volunteer Project in Cape Town over Christmas
Shayle Havemann - Southern Africa Programs Manager
Shayle was born and raised in South Africa, after completing a B.Sc (hons) degree in Psychology at Rhodes University, she decided to satisfy her passion for travel and spent a number of years travelling and working around the United Kingdom, Europe, the United States and Africa. In addition to travelling extensively throughout Africa she spent 3 years managing a concession in the Okavango Delta, Botswana.
Shayle has been involved in development, training and management in both the meaningful travel and safari industries since 2001 and has developed and designed various different programs and adventure tours for a variety of different clients, organisations and volunteers. She is very excited to work together with her local community leaders in the new challenge of developing GVI run programs throughout Southern Africa.
Will Frost - Project Manager
Will was born and raised in London’s multicultural society and developed a love for other countries and cultures at a very early age. After leaving school at 16 and successfully setting up and running his own company for 2 years, Will returned to education to train as an English teacher where he could combine his love for travel and his belief that the best way to help those less advantaged than ourselves is through improving standards of education. Since qualifying as a teacher in 2003, Will has taught in London and abroad including Mexico and India, where he travelled extensively, and in a variety of areas such as refugees and immigrants and young learners.
Will has always had a strong sense of social responsibility and has been a keen charity fundraiser since his first bungee jump at the age of 16. His teaching and travels have led him to a number of overseas projects including GVI’s Teaching Kids in Tribal Communities in India in 2007. After initially going as a regular volunteer Will returned to India in 2008 to work on educational development and it was on his return that he joined GVI’s St Albans office to gain further experience of international project management and development, an area Will is keen and determined to move into.
Bongi Qondani - Children's home Supervisor
Bongi Qondani was 12 when her mother opened a day care centre for physically and mentally disabled children. She was so taken by her own mother (Mama Lumka"s) dedication and unfailing love for all the children in her centre that she decided to follow in her foot steps and is now the supervisor for the Children's Home Mama Lumka developed over the years.
The death of both her brother who suffered from physical disabilities and her older sister to HIV has motivated her to dedicate her life to others in need. She is continuing with her mothers work at the centre and hopes to increase the number of children she can accommodate.
