Volunteer with Lemurs in Madagascar
Throughout your time in Madagascar you will be accompanied by the project coordinators who form part of an award-winning team. Our project partners over the years have received many prestigious endorsements such as those from Sir David Attenborough, The Royal Botanic Gardens Kew and Duke Primate Centre. It has won a number of coveted awards such as the Sting and Trudie Styler Award for Conservation & Human Rights (one of the Whitley Foundation's awards - the so-called ‘Green Oscars’ presented by HRH Princess Anne in 2001) and two Flora and Fauna International 100% Fund cash awards for conservation research and four Walt Disney Foundation awards for conservation research. The Pioneer Scheme was Highly Commended in the ‘Best for Volunteering’ category of the 2005 First Choice Responsible Tourism Awards, organised by online travel agent responsibletravel.com, in association with The Times, World Travel Market and Geographical Magazine.
You will be both part of a team and part of an interface with the local community, which has a fascinating culture. A team of Malagasy staff travel and work with our volunteers at all times, primarily to ensure that the group is safe, but also to work with you and offer advice on Malagasy culture, facilitating communication and positive interaction with the local communities. This ensures that our volunteers have full support and encouragement to understand and appreciate the very different culture and environment that project will take you into.
