Free Time
Cross River Gorilla Surveys in the Highland Rainforests of South West Cameroon
Participating with GVI not only allows you to work on programs assisting disadvantaged communities or endangered ecosystems but it also offers wonderful opportunities to travel in the local area in your down time or further afield either before or after your program. Below is some information on trips and travel options in Cameroon.
Included Side Trips
These include visits to local villages, palaces and schools; a trip to the Limbe Wildlife Centre - a rescue and rehabilitation facility for primates, and to Limbe Down Beach for a walk and/or to eat grilled fish and plantains.
Optional Included Side Trips
Due to the remoteness of the area and lack of public transport travelling around the local area is extremely limited. For those that have the energy bird watching in the Lebialem Highlands is a possibility in your free time.
Further Travelling Opportunities
If you would like to further your experience in Cameroon, ideas of opportunities to do so include the following; visiting the elephants at the Parc National de Waza, climbing West Africa’s highest peak – Mount Cameroon or joining a hiking safari to spot smaller primates and birds, visiting the Mount Cameroon eruption and turtle beaches, relaxing on the white sands at Kiribi, and trekking through the Mandara Mountains.
