Overview
Long-Term Volunteer Positions in Kenya, East Africa
Undertake a 9 or 12 month placement working with orphans and disadvantaged children in Mombasa
Over 9 or 12 months, become part of a community in the vibrant city of Mombasa on the Indian Ocean, working with children from Bombolulu slum where hunger and dysfunctional homes mean many fail to attend school and attain basic literacy. HIV / AIDS also takes its toll leaving young children orphaned or abandoned. You will work alongside volunteer teachers at a children’s centre and staff at an orphanage for HIV / AIDS orphans, providing education to the most vulnerable children, counseling, and encouraging environmental and social awareness as well as supporting childcare.
Providing the children with long-term assistance greatly aids their development. Every 3 months, two weeks break is scheduled so volunteers have an opportunity to relax or travel around Kenya and other parts of Africa.
I feel truly blessed to have worked with the children's centre and the people involved. Words simply cannot describe how appreciated your time and energy are in a project where the children and staff have so little to work with, but are making such positive strides. A life changing experience for any volunteer and the children receiving your help.

What Difference Does This Project Make?
The children's centre provides underprivileged children with education, regular meals and a nurturing environment, taken for granted in developed nations. The orphanage legally adopts young children that have been orphaned by HIV / AIDS, or tested positive and abandoned. Children are given a secure, stable home life, education and medical treatment. The project delivers opportunities to children from disrupted homelives, supporting health and social awareness in an area with high HIV prevalence, prostitution and drug abuse, with limited access to healthcare. Long-term volunteers are needed to provide stability and support for vulnerable children, take on teaching responsibilities, develop new art, music, drama, sport and environmental programs and work towards increasing the capacity of the centre to improve funding and facilities.
