Learn about African wildlife on a 28 day course in Kruger National Park

Program Overview

Join our ranger program in the world famous Kruger National Park, the largest game reserve in South Africa. Here you can experience first-hand what it is really like to be a ranger in South Africa, amid the amazing diversity of landscapes and wildlife that the reserve is home to.

The ranger program will allow you to go on spectacular bush walks and game drives, and attend lectures on mammals, birds, trees and more, presented by experienced game rangers. You will also learn about conservation management, survival in the reserve, anti-poaching and wildlife diseases.

Life on the Program

Your time on the program will be filled with daily lectures on a range of topics and when not in class you will enjoy bush walks, game drives, night drives and on occasion a sleep out in the wilderness under the African stars.

Days usually begin and end with a walk or drive in the reserve when the wildlife is most active. In between these times there will be lectures and classes.

Accommodation is in large tents which are equipped with beds, bedding and chairs. The tents have running water, flush toilets and electricity. The catering team provides three meals daily.

Program Details

The ranger program introduces you to the wildlife and nature of the Kruger National Park and helps sharpen your knowledge on the mammals, birds and plants occurring in this world-renowned area. It is a wonderful experience for anyone wanting to gain more in-depth knowledge about the bush.

You will enjoy daily classroom lectures on topics such as geology, ecology, animal behaviour, mammals, reptiles, birds, astronomy and much more. The emphasis of this program is on practical training however, and you will visit our Kruger concession area, a pristine 2,000 hectare reserve that is part of the Park, on a daily basis for either bushwalks or game drives with our experienced trainers. There are also several full day trips to the Kruger Park itself.

Despite having experienced the bush prior to the course I have been blown away by the new insights and knowledge this course offers. It is endlessly exciting to witness and appreciate all aspects of an eco-system, my eyes now open to the trees, grasses, soils, insects and more natural miracles. The staff here are incredibly knowledgeable. The workload is high but intensely interesting and I can only recommend it to anyone with an interest in the African bush, be it for a career change or pure passion.
