Work on important conservation projects in the world famous region of Queensland

Program Overview

Work on environmental conservation projects in North Queensland. Gateway to the Great Barrier reef and the Australian outback this stunning area is home to a diverse range of animal and plant life.

Work on conservation projects in coastlines, waterways and tropical rainforests alongside a leading volunteer organisation. Project work will vary and could include gathering environmental data, planting trees or establishing hiking trails.

This project presents an amazing opportunity to work on key conservation initiatives, experience Australia’s natural habitats and make friends from around the world.

Life on the Program

You will spend most of your time working outdoors contributing towards ongoing environmental projects. Days will start early and work will be demanding but very rewarding as you will be making an important contribution to critical conservation projects.

Each week you will have a day or two providing free time to explore and take in the local area. Sites like Magnetic Island offer beautiful beach walks and stunning views.

Accommodation on the project will vary an may include hostels, tents and lodges. Everyone will work together to help with cooking and cleaning. Where possible fresh fruit, vegetables and meat are provided although in remote areas you should expect more simple meals.

Project Details

The goal of this project is to protect endangered species and world famous environments like the Great Barrier Reef coastline. Activities include tree planting, removal of feral species, construction of protective fencing, wood control and restoration work.

You will work in teams of 6-10 with a team manager who will provide necessary training and equipment. Projects will change every one to two weeks providing the opportunity to work on different environmental focuses.

Our is to help our partner in Australia, a non-profit community based organisation, to continue designing, developing and implementing important conservation projects by supplying enthusiastic and hardworking volunteers.

How this project makes a difference:

GVI actively supports our partner in their dedication to involving the community in conservation and natural resource management programs.  We aim to assist our partner by providing volunteers so that it can grow and increase the community’s attention on critical environmental issues.
