Thailand English Teaching Internship
Teaching Experience
As part of the initial teacher training participants have the opportunity to continue their teaching after completing the TEFL course by sharing the teaching of GVI English classes in the main community for a further four weeks of lessons to local students. During this time graduates gain the needed experience to mature into qualified teachers while still enjoying the continued support and assistance from peers and GVI staff on hand at any time.
Upon successful completion of the initial teacher training and a deserved break, graduates are qualified and experienced teachers ready to embark on their volunteer teaching placement for the remaining 3-9 months in a selected school or community. The general schedule of the work day varies between the placements although generally teaching will take place during the day and independence, creativity, flexibility and preparation will be key to getting the most out of the placement. GVI offers a job placement service to all GVI TEFL graduates, which assists them in finding placements in local communities around the world or paid positions in the TEFL Industry if possible. During the first four weeks, you will receive intensive training to develop the skills need to become a teacher of English as a foreign language (TEFL), as well as developing your language skills within the local communities.
GVI's English Program
A unique aspect to this program is that TEFL course participants teach students who are involved in an existing English curriculum, made possible by the GVI TEFL courses themselves. The TEFL course enables adults in the community to take four-week English classes, and students can progress through levels after formal evaluations which take place at the end of each four-week class. Since the first term in July 2007, over 1,200 certificates have been awarded to students for attending English classes (85 percent attendance is required to receive a certificate). Each term an average of 75 students attend GVI classes, which offer 10 classes per term in six levels, covering Beginner to Pre-Intermediate English.
