Volunteering in Central America
Endowed with lush cloud forests filled with wildlife, long stretches of Caribbean beaches, high pine-covered ridges, red-hot volcanoes, Mayan ruins and stunning waterfalls; Central America offers endless chances to explore and discover, whatever your passion. Central America’s seven countries are only a quarter of Mexico’s size, yet contain a diversity of geography, recreational activities and cultural groups found nowhere else in the world. From rafting down rapids in tropical forests to marvelling at beautiful pre-Columbian Mayan art and architecture, diving in the second largest barrier reef in the Northern and Western hemispheres to meringue dancing, Central America has so much to offer anyone who chooses to volunteer here.
GVI has a diverse range of volunteer programmes operating in Central America that take volunteers on incredible adventures. Volunteering in Central America could see you working with rural communities in Nicaragua surrounded by beautiful mountainous terrain; monitoring birds as you trek through the thick Costa Rican jungle to the sound of howler monkeys; caring for orphaned manatees in an area scattered with ancient Mayan ruins in Belize; helping to plant crops for some of Honduras’s neediest families; or even monitoring leatherback turtles on a remote island in Panama surrounded by turquoise waters.
