Volunteering in Sri Lanka
Known also as the Teardrop of India and the Pearl of the Orient; Sri Lanka is rich in beauty and culture, making it a wonderful country in which to find volunteer work. From exploring glorious rolling mountains and huge lush rainforests to the sounds of hundreds of species of birds, to relaxing on the golden sands of a south coast beach; Sri Lanka is a picturesque and exotic country that will appeal to anyone volunteering.
The island is dotted with tea plantations, ancient cities and gigantic serene Buddha figures, some carved out of granite cliff faces. Between exploring these watch the sunrise over Worlds End and admire the clouds several hundred metres below; go on an elephant trek seeing a variety of wildlife that includes leopards, jackals and crocodiles; and of course, go to a cricket match to cheer along with the exuberant and friendly Sri Lankans.
