Volunteering in Laos
As one of the most traditional countries in Southeast Asia, Laos holds great appeal to the relatively few visitors who travel here. Anyone wishing to volunteer in an area still relatively unchanged by the tourist industry will be greatly rewarded to find beautiful vistas, ethnically diverse cultures and welcoming Lao people not that changed from those that greeted French explorers over a hundred years ago.
Take a slow boat down the Mekong River through fertile lowlands to see the rare Irrawaddy dolphin; wander cities lined with cobble-stone streets, markets and the golden spires of countless Buddhist temples; or bike through a landscape of ricefields, bamboo forests and ancient ruins set in moonscape valleys. The relaxed pace and remaining traditional rural Southeast Asian life ensures that volunteering in Laos is volunteering in a country like nowhere else on Earth.
