Volunteering in Madagascar
The main island of Madagascar is the fourth largest island in the world. With its unique mix of (often endemic) flora and fauna some ecologists refer to it as the eighth continent. Volunteering in this exciting country will take you to a beautiful land of high plateaus, deep gorges, waterfalls, and shimmering forests full of unusual and fascinating creatures that include many types of lemur, flying foxes, geckoes, chameleons, sifakas and even the Nile crocodile.
Much of Madagascars rural population are still deeply involved in old tribal practices. Madagascars mix of Austronesian and African peoples have a rich and unique culture, with amazing and varied forms of traditional music that includes the hiragasy a combination of music, dance and oration with a political and educative role. With amazingly varied landscapes to be seen and fantastically new experiences to have, Madagascar is an awe-inspiring country in which to volunteer abroad.
