Construction at Ikhayalethemba

One of the advantages of being a coordinator at Ikhayalethemba is that we are able to run a variety of projects at the one site. One of the big positives of the job for me, is that I get to be involved in a bit of everything; whether it be teaching, working with children with special needs or even a bit of DIY.

Most recently, in addition to running our usual childcare and healthcare programs at the sanctuary, we have had the aid of a fantastic construction volunteer. For this project, we decided to carry on with some of the work we had addressed previously with our under-18 volunteers. We opted to stick to GVIs eco-friendly ethos and recycle used pallets into something significantly more useful.

We chose to make some shelves, to provide the sanctuary with some much-needed extra storage space. It was great fun making the shelves and took a good deal of hard work. The final product was both functional and aesthetically pleasing, as well as being environmentally friendly. A job well done!
