Testimonial from Roslyn King, Fiji Teaching Internship
Spending six months in remote areas of Fiji introduced me to probably the most joyful race of people you could possibly meet. I’ve had a good life, but even so I think I laughed and danced more whilst there than in the previous 10 years. Living by the ocean under coconut trees, snorkelling over coral reefs, watching dolphins leaping was a wonderful enough experience, but seeing that a community really can live by working together and supporting each other in hard times was such a soul lifting experience, especially when there is so much mistrust and violence in the rest of the world. To experience the way volunteers were welcomed into their homes and hearts without question was a lesson to us all, and the sadness felt by every volunteer as well as their adoptive Fijian families at the end of their placement time, truly is a testament to the Fijian’s kindness and spirit.
