Hi I’m Beca and I live in Cardiff, South Wales. Having decided to do some voluntary work over the summer, I prioritised charities that were involved in sustainable projects, worked in partnerships and had a good reputation. I found GVI via an internet search and having read other testimonials and reviews decided on to enrol myself on a two week programme in Nepal. Having never been to a developing country, I will never forget my first day on project. We were to spend a week in a small, poorly funded primary school that had been severely damaged by the earthquake. Our given task was to make noticeboards and paint classrooms. Seeing the children play in what I would call a building site was truly humbling and I shall never forget the excitement on their faces when the digger arrived! These children had so little yet were so happy and made me appreciate what I had taken for granted. Joining GVI in their mission to make a difference is truly an experience of a lifetime. I have met some amazing, interesting people who I hope to stay in touch with, experienced Asia for the first time and even learnt to make the famous nepalese speciality ‘Momo’s’. I strongly feel that if an opportunity presents itself for anyone else to visit a developing country they should take it and definately consider GVI to facilitate the adventure!
