I loved my six weeks in Luang Prabang. From day 1 when I met my co-volunteers and the GVI staff I had a fantastic time. I was delighted to find that the ages of the volunteers ranged from 18 to 59 (me!) and were from all over the world. The guesthouse we stayed in was very comfortable and I must admit I enjoyed having a room of my own. This is a definite plus for the older volunteer. It was a real privilege teaching English to novice monks in Temple Schools. The novices were enthusiastic, hard working and had a great sense of humour. I also enjoyed the opportunity of working in other schools with girls and lay students. But I think it was the overall experience of living and working in Luang Prabang that made my time so special. Getting to know locals, eating fantastic food every day, shopping at markets, a weekend trek to isolated villages, hiking amongst rice paddies, swimming in waterfalls and soaking up as much of the atmosphere I could. I loved sharing my experience with my co-volunteers and GVI staff. I’m already planning my next visit!
