My name is Gregory Tilsar and I did the South Africa Wildlife Conservation Short Term internship for six weeks in Karongwe private game reserve and it was the best decision I have ever made. I am a Politics and International Relations student at Exeter University who initially became aware of GVI through the Internet. I decided to undertake the internship in order to have a once in a lifetime experience and to see whether I wanted to pursue a career in environmental conservation. The staff and volunteers were both amazing and it was a pleasure to work and learn from everyone professionally and to get to know everyone personally. They are all very friendly and are always open to any questions about the environment. This made the training such as how to use the equipment and mammal ID exceptionally easy as the staff were always willing to help if you were ever confused. I had an incredible time whilst I was there and I honestly could not pick out a single moment which standouts as everyday was special in its own way as you never knew what you were going to see on drive. In terms of of my future career prospects, I believe that the GVI internship has made me a more employable person in terms of the fact that I have obtained skills that I did not have before and I have shown adaptability in terms of being a politics student and still being able to help with zoologists in conservation efforts. Moreover, I am now far more interested in a career in wildlife conservation than I was ever before and I now fully appreciate the magnitude of the task in front of humanity and how everyone needs to do their part to save the environment. In terms of personal growth, I rediscovered my love for nature and wildlife which I personally had moved away from a long time ago and I believe that I have become a more sociable person having participated in this experience. Therefore, I believe that the GVI internship has made me a better person in all aspects. In summation, I would recommend to anyone, whether you want to pursue a career in environmental conservation or not, to come to GVI as you will gain the experience of a lifetime and memories that will stick with you forever. My only regret is that I did not book to stay for longer as GVI creates an environment that you never want to leave and helps to create friendships that will last a lifetime
