Week 7 in Pez maya- N theme party, rough seas, birding and coral watch!

When I left you we were all carefully constructing ‘N’ themed costumes for Nick’sbirthday party….and what a party it was…in attendance there were ninja turtles, a nurse shark, Nelly {yes the rapper} and a northern monkey!

After recovering all day Sunday, we woke up to bad weather on Monday morning with howling wind and rough seas, we knew there wouldn’t be any diving today so we all set out to work on various base jobs and building projects to improve our beautiful home. These included creating a raccoon proof rubbish area, making signs and weaving palms to create a waterproof roof for the compressor. It was a really productive day and everyone felt very proud of their work.

Bad weather continued on Tuesday but we were able to work on other projects ran from Pez Maya such as the Bird Monitoring Program. Our resident family of Ospreys
are getting ready to nest again and are busy collecting materials to improve their home. Many Royal Turns have also been spotted fishing just in front of base and we are suspecting that they are getting ready to nest there which should provide some interesting sightings in the next few months.

The weather picked up towards the end of the week and the newbies on base were able to crack on with their Advanced Open Water Training, while the rest of us took part in ‘Coral Watch’, an international project that monitors reef health around the world.

We are all looking forward to some good weather next week so that the Rescue diver
course can get well underway and we can witness some good acting skills from those playing victims!

Until next time xoxo
