Morning Coffee in Huay Pakoot

Posted: June 28, 2019

I’m a student. I live off coffee. I love waking up and smelling the warm aromas of freshly brewed coffee wafting from my mug and gracefully lifting me from my sleepy daze. The thought of waking up in the morning and having no coffee, or even worse, instant coffee sounds like a horror movie in my head, and often ends badly (trust me I know from past experiences). Admittedly, before coming I tried to wean myself off it so I was not dependant on my morning cuppa, I didn’t want to be the grinch on my first week in Huay Pakoot. Imagine my delight when I found out there is fresh coffee available just down the road from base at Root’s.

Morning Breaks over the Village of Huay Pakoot

I like my mornings slow and chilled. The morning rush is one of the reasons I wanted to get away from home and come out to this secluded, rural village. The early morning wake up call from the cockerels was a shock to the system at first but after a few days the 4 o’clock cry became a normal part of my morning routine. Now, 6am feels like a lie in and I’m easily up and out-and-about for 6:30 (Roots opening time). There is always a few familiar volunteers faces there before me, nice company to have over my morning cuppa. Everyone is in the mood for a chilled start to their day and with the view over the mountains, the rising clouds and the morning breeze blowing through the open hut, it is the perfect place to spend the morning. Before the madness of the day, Roots is a haven to appreciate the morning quiet and, best of all, enjoy a warm cup of joe.
