Such happy and welcoming faces
I am soon approaching the end of my first three weeks on the healthcare program in Baan Nam Khem. I cannot believe how fast the time has gone. I was nervous to begin this program because I have never worked closely with children with disabilities before. I lost all my worries the moment we arrived at the Camillian center and were met with such happy and welcoming faces. The kids at the centre are wonderful and it has been a pleasure to work with them.
The past three weeks we’ve worked on vocab and crafts related to the themes of sports, Egyptians, and dinosaurs. They’ve all been a lot of fun! This week for the dinosaur theme we made dinosaur hats, claws and dinosaur feet and all of the kids got to take part in a scavenger hunt for dinosaur bones. For the group project last week all of the GVI Phang Nga volunteers and staff went to the beach with the Camillian staff and fourteen of kids that attend the center. It was great to see and interact with the kids outside of the center.
Along with Camillian we have been going to the orphanage. The kids there have so much energy and are constantly pulling you here or there. Running around with the kids can be exhausting but it is also a ton of fun. It reminds me of when I was working as a nanny! You can play with them on the playground or have a bit of quiet play with books, cards, or other resources. I am having a great time here and could not be more excited for what the next 2+ months will bring!
