GVI Thailand’s 10th Anniversary!

Posted: October 4, 2017

10 years ago GVI Thailand begun the teaching English project in schools across the Ao Luk region of the land of smiles. Since Ao Luk, GVI Thailand has moved to two separate locations: Phang Nga and Chang Mai. This month in Phang Nga, we reflected on how far we have come in the last 10 years, as well as devised a special anniversary event to rejoice in the many achievements we have made in the last 10 years.

We decided our 10 year anniversary would be celebrated by way of a fun fair at one of our long-term partners, the Ban Nam Khem School. The Ban Nam Khem School was built-up from donations by a number of different companies looking to help one of the areas worst hit by the 2004 tsunami. Now, the school provides education to the majority of students from the village of Ban Nam Khem, which is also home to the GVI Phang Nga hub. As we are so immersed in the community our connection to the school and it’s students is resolute.

There was never a dull moment at our 10 year anniversary event, which included both regular volunteers, the under 18 volunteers from the service learning program, GVI staff not to mention the 150 plus students and teachers! But with ten carnival stalls for the students to test their skills and 4 outside activities all running at the same time, everyone was kept busy! The carnival stalls were created by our volunteers and included: a treasure map game, face paint, a can throw, hoopla, a lucky dip and many more! One of the activities students were involved in was the creation of a mural in honor of the 10 year anniversary.

The day was a huge success and a great testimony to the 10 years of hard work volunteers and staff have dedicated towards GVI Thailand. At the end of the fun fair we were invited to the front of the school and presented with a gift of thanks from the school for our years of assisting the community of Ban Nam Khem. It is an honor to be recognized and accepted by such fantastic, loving people whom we hope to continue to support for the coming years. A sincere thank you to all who have helped the Phang Nga hub become what it is today and helped with the anniversary fun fair and here’s to another 10 years!
