Environmental Education Manuel Antonio National Park!

After several meetings with the management team that runs Manuel Antonio National Park we have launched a new Environmental Education program, which brings together volunteers and students from the public school in El Cocal.
Manuel Antonio is one of Costa Rica’s most renowned National Parks, attracting tourists from all over the world. This program offers local children the opportunity to experience, often for the first time in their life, the beauty and biodiversity of the National Park, which is right on their doorstep!

Before each visit volunteers are trained by a local
guide on the flora and fauna they will encounter in the park, how to present the activities to the children, relevant Spanish vocabulary and health and safety, such as identification of dangerous plants and wildlife. We want to prepare the volunteers so that the kids can have a safe and educational trip.

Each volunteer is responsible for two elementary students helping them to complete their field worksheets and to identify animals and plants, with the information given by our local guide. It is wonderful to see children so excited and curious about the environment that surrounds them.

This week we are excited to be making our fifth excursion to the park so far….sneak a peek at what the kids have been up to!
