Diwali at Cherai Beach
Diwali at Cherai Beach
Last Thursday we celebrated the festival Diwali. Unknowingly, we celebrated the festival the day after the actual event. The festival spiritually signifies the victory of light over darkness, knowledge over ignorance, good over evil, and hope over despair. To celebrate Diwali also known as the festival of lights we travelled to Cherai beach, where we stayed in a series of beach huts situated above the beach.
We spent most of the afternoon relaxing on the beach. The girls sunbathed and read their books while Steve and I spent the majority of our time in the sea. At one point we decided to have a seal race, which involved a handless belly shuffle up onto the beach. The result was a draw however we were both rewarded with multiple scratches.
In the evening we out for dinner at Les Three Elephants restaurant. The restaurant was beautifully situated next to the Kerala’s iconic backwaters. When we got back to the hotel we had drinks and devoured a chocolate cake brought specially to celebrate Lucy’s birthday. The evening was much enjoyed and when the sun rested and the moon woke up a few of us enjoyed the night sky. After a lengthy lie in the next day we left at noon, however I managed to squeeze some photographs in before we left.
