Blog from an Under 18's Group Leader
I first came to India in October last year on a whim. My seasonal job was finishing up, I had little direction and all I wanted to do was run away. So that’s what I decided to do. I had been thinking about volunteering for a while and India was a country high up on my bucket list. I decided to combine the two and jumped onto Google. The GVI website came up and before I could think about what I was doing, I was already planning my trip.
Within three days of being here I had extended my trip from 1 month to 2.
I eventually had to return to real life and an office job, but was given the opportunity to come back to this amazing country as under 18 staff. I immediately quit my job and began dreaming of Indian life again.
I was due to fly home last week, but I still have a hard time saying goodbye and have once again decided to stay.
Eventually I’ll have to return to real life once more, but the memories and experiences will stick with me. I’ve met so many amazing people and have been able to contribute to some incredible projects. The staff here at GVI even inspired me to do a TEFL course, which has helped me find employment overseas.
For anybody even vaguely considering a volunteer trip, just book it. And don’t look back.
