GVI staff put candle power to the test for Earth Hour
On Saturday March 26th all the GVI staff descended on the island of Curieuse for a training workshop. It was an opportunity to get everyone together for some bonding as well as an opportunity to prepare for the coming phase.
In addition to painting the volunteer dorms the Curieuse crew were busy fixing the whole of the staff accommodation outside seating area.
Luckily the sun was shining and the sea an amazing aquamarine colour which made for some amazing training dives.
The 26th was also a celebration of Earth Hour where people all around the world were scheduled to turn off their lights to raise awareness of environmental issues. With the Cap Ternay team having left Mahe to be on Curieuse we had already massively reduced the amount of electricity we would use for the evening. Nevertheless, at 8:30pm we turned off the Curieuse generator and lit the candles. In keeping with this years theme of 60+ we spent the rest of the night by candlelight.
The workshop was a great success and many of the group spent the last morning snorkeling in front of the base where we saw a shark, several green turtles and a number of eagle rays.
Feeling refreshed and ready to go we are now looking forward to the start of the new phase this coming Friday.
