Volunteering Abroad
Although people have been volunteering abroad for many years, within recent years its popularity has soared. Increasing numbers of people have discovered that volunteering abroad is a fantastic way to see another part of our world while giving something back. As well as playing a crucial role in long term, sustainable programmes, when volunteering abroad you can make new friends, learn new skills and languages, work towards additional qualifications and experience a new culture and way of life in a way not possible if you were just travelling through a country by yourself.
Volunteering abroad for you, the volunteer, should mean the trip of a lifetime and so you should always do your research and planning carefully to ensure a safe and well organised experience that is beneficial to both the individual and host country. There are a variety of ways in which you can establish the quality of a particular volunteering abroad organisation, like the in-country support set up, who do you call in an emergency, can you raise the funds for your project, are just a few things to keep in mind when deciding on a volunteering abroad trip.
Pointers of what to ask, things to find out and answers to many of your questions can be found in our volunteering abroad guide.
