Sample Week
On the arrival day, no surveys at sea are conducted. Participants are therefore invited to make themselves at home and become familiar with the house, the place and the other people at the base. Usually, everybody takes advantage of the arrival day to relax after the trip in one of the beaches close to the house. In the evening the research staff provide information on the scheduled research activities and begin the training for the collection of field data.
The following days are devoted to the field work, during which participants in the programme are encouraged to take part in all research activities. The field work is carried out whenever the weather is good. Participants should be aware that the schedule may vary, depending on weather conditions, research priorities and logistical constraints. For instance, a rainy or windy day may force the staff to postpone a scheduled survey at sea, so activities that day may include theoretical work and data analysis or going on a trip to a nearby location (depending on the circumstances).
