Volunteer in Orphanages in Nepal

Participating with GVI not only allows you to work on programs assisting disadvantaged communities or endangered ecosystems but it also offers wonderful opportunities to travel in the local area or further afield either before or after your program. Below is some information on trips and travel options in Nepal.

Included Side Trips

During the orientation most volunteers will visit some or all of the following sights in Kathmandu; Kathmandu Durbar Square, Pashupatinath, Boudhanath, Patan Durbar Square and Swayambhunath. As well as seeing the best that Kathmandu Valley has to offer you may also have the opportunity to visit Bhaktapur, the former capital of Nepal.

Optional Included Side Trips

There are three optional side trips that take in some of the best activities on offer in Nepal:

• Two days rafting the white-water of the Trisuli River – including an overnight stay at a riverside camp.
• Four days trekking in the Annapurnas - the group will assemble in Pokhara, ready to set off the next day on a unique four day trek into the Annapurna Mountains. Here too, you will be very in-touch with the village people of the High Himal. For a more detailed itinerary see the further information section
• Elephant safari in the Chitwan National Park – enjoy 2 nights at the Royal Park Hotel and look for tigers and rhinos on safari.

Further Travelling Opportunities

There are a wealth of opportunities in Nepal for further travel and exploration of the country. These include the following: the foothills of the Himalayas in Langtang National Park, the ancient temples and villages of Tansen, the Newari architecture in Bandipur, the hustle and bustle of Kathmandu, trekking up to Everest Base Camp, the ancient Hindu centre of Janakpur, and many others.
