Overview
Volunteer on a Sports Project in South Africa

Volunteer to teach various sports to over 1000 children in a primary school near Cape Town

Volunteers will be teaching children a range of different sports including football, netball, cricket, tennis, athletics and rugby in townships that surround the beautiful city of Cape Town. The aim is for you to assist teachers and GVI staff to run sports programs at the schools and to give more personal attention to the students. This GVI volunteer program runs in conjunction with community leaders and teachers from the communities. Without this program or volunteer assistance, the children would not have the opportunity to take part in such a variety of sports activities and events, due to lack of equipment, skill and supervision within the township.

Further training options are also available at this location, including a short term community development internship.

This has been one of the best experiences of my life!

What Difference Does This Project Make?

One of the biggest challenges communities in South Africa are facing today is that their youth are often turning to drugs, alcohol and criminal activity. This is a direct result of lack of adult supervision and boredom amongst children within poverty stricken communities. This program aims to offer children within these communities the opportunity to take part in various sporting activities, which will encourage healthy living and provide them with a positive environment where they can develop their skills and hopefully provide an alternative to roaming the streets with nothing to do in the afternoons. The program will also offer opportunities for talented individuals to compete in local sports tournaments and events.
