Travel to Mount Everest base camp supporting learning centres and children’s homes
Program Overview
Immerse yourself in the life of Nepal whilst staying with a local host family in the ancient city of Kathmandu for your orientation. Challenge yourself with a trek within the world’s tallest mountain range whilst supporting local communities. Sample flavourful local cuisine, visit ancient Hindu temples, and explore the traditions and language of Nepal.
Go on an action packed, adrenaline fueled white water rafting trip after your home stay orientation, before placement on a teaching and childcare project in Bandipur, Chitwan, Nuwakot, Pokhara or Trisuli.
Promote a nurturing environment and teach English language skills through leading activities and games. Set off for a mountain adventure to the amazing Everest base camp for breathtaking views after making your positive difference in the local communities.
Life on the Program
Provide critical assistance to care providers and local teachers through leadership of a variety of educational activities and assist with lesson planning whilst on your volunteer placement. Days can prove to be long and demanding, but the work will be extremely rewarding.
Throughout both your orientation period and work placement you will stay in home stay accommodation. Electricity is usually available, along with running water, with rooms and facilities typically shared. Meals are provided, and traditional local cuisine will be provided through your host family as you become fully immersed.
Tea houses (lodges) accommodate you during your trek, with meals provided by the lodge owners. Typical meals consist of spring rolls, fried rice, boiled vegetables, Momos (dumplings), or noodles.
Program Details
Many of the care facilities would not be able to continue running without the continued support, hard work, and enthusiasm volunteers provide as Nepal is a poor country. Within a care centre, school, or orphanage, you will be matched according to your skills to a teaching or childcare project in Nepal. English teaching, conservation-community based initiatives, sports, and computer skills are all areas which may need your assistance.
Trek to the Everest base camp for stunning views of the Himalaya mountains. With unparalleled views, the journey will prove challenging but rewarding. Look out at some of the most scenic lookout points as you make your ascent, whilst taking-in picturesque meadows, mountain villages and yak herders en route.
Volunteer Testimonials
While in Nepal the volunteers have an opportunity to break up the work with some recreational activities. Two days white water rafting on the Trisuli river and a five day trek up into the Annapurna range gave me further insight into the people, wildlife and geography of this amazing country. I will be continuing my involvement with Children’s Welfare Home, fund-raising here in the UK and I hope to return to the Himalayan Kingdom as soon as possible...
The personal growth and challenges that results from this trip will be appreciated for all my life to come. The passion and zest for life which had slowly dissolved over the past couple of years was reignited in Bandipur and I have returned with visions of living life to the fullest.
