Program Overview

Travel to the southern province of Krabi and the town of Ao Luk, located near to tropical beaches, hidden caves and lush rainforests, and earn your TEFL (Teach English as a Foreign Language) certification while leading English classes for local adults.

While receiving your TEFL training you will teach evening classes for adults. Once certified, you will lead your own classes in local community centres and schools, giving the community the opportunity to learn English and aim for a better future.

Use your free weekend to learn about the Thai culture and language, cooking delicious local meals, exploring your stunning surroundings or just relax and take it all in.

Life on the Program

Each day will start early with a typical breakfast as you prepare for a days’ teaching. While working to achieve your certification, most of the day will be spent with a qualified TEFL trainer, preparing lesson plans and teaching resources to assist in your evening classes at the local community centre.

Once certified you will have your own class that you will be expected to prepare and plan in order to deliver an effective lesson.

Your accommodation in Ao Luk will be at our base camp in shared dormitories with access to running water and electricity. While basic, the base is a fun place to relax and really get to know your fellow volunteers.

Program Details

Through your provision of TEFL classes, English courses are structured into four week blocks, with your class going through a formal evaluation at the end of each block before advancing onto the next level.

Our main goal is to keep these English classes running so that the community can learn English in order to benefit from the increase in tourism in the area. We aim to provide enthusiastic TEFL-certified teachers to meet our goal and make a real difference in the community.

Personally, you will gain invaluable teaching experience as you work your way through your own challenges in creating and delivering exciting and interactive lessons.

Of course GVI Thailand is so much more than just a TEFL course. I came here hoping to experience the “real” Thailand and I have not been disappointed. Ao Luk is a small community in which GVI is well established and respected. Everyone in town is as eager to say “Hello” to me as I am to say “Sawadee Ka” to them! Every other day we take Thai language lessons, which give us a deeper appreciation for our students efforts to learn English. Every night we eat Thai cuisine prepared by a local resident.
