Volunteer on vital conservation projects and enjoy an adventure tour of Queensland

Program Overview

This is as good as Australia gets! Travel to Queensland, along the coastline of the stunning Great Barrier Reef and contribute to vital conservation projects before embarking on an adventure tour of the region.

You will work with a respected conservation NGO and the possibility of various different project focuses from tropical rainforest to the barrier reef coastline, giving you an incredible look into Australia off the tourist trail.

After putting the gloves down from working, take in an adventure packed tour from white water rafting to snorkeling. Even more adventure can be added on in the form of scuba diving, bungee diving or sky diving.

Life on the Program

You will enjoy a welcome orientation and a relaxing first weekend getting to know your fellow volunteers before beginning project work. You should expect activities to include anything from endangered species protection to walking trail construction to environmental monitoring. It will all depend on the needs of the project, but you should be prepared for physical work and all weather conditions.

On the second phase of the expedition you will travel throughout Queensland, hiking, trekking through rainforest, snorkeling and white water rafting. During down time you can also decide to pay extra for activities such as bungee jumping or sky diving.

Accommodation throughout will be varied, in hostels, rainforest lodges or tents. Food while on program is also varied, but you should make allowances for basic meals, particularly on remote project locations.

GVI partners with a local not-for-profit community organisation that is dedicated to involving the community in practical, hands-on conservation initiatives.

The goal is to develop long term partnerships that have a strong identity and focus on community involvement in vital environmental issues. You will contribute to reconnecting communities to their environment in a positive way.

You will join some 2,500 overseas volunteers visiting Australia every year to participate in similar programs, benefiting from on the job training and education in environmental issues and their corrective procedure.

How this program makes a difference:

This expedition offers you a safe and fun opportunity to contribute in a positive and practical way to help conserve the fragile and unique Australian environment, home to many species of astounding flora and fauna.
