GVI’S ACHIEVEMENTS

Over the past 14 years we’ve achieved a few things that we are quite proud of.  Here’s a short list of some of these things…

 

  • We were awarded “Best Volunteering Organisation” at Virgin Holiday’s Responsible Travel Awards in 2011
  • We teach over 1,000 pre-school children every year
  • We provide primary school lessons to 8,000 children every day
  • Over 400 people trained as TEFL teachers to date
  • 855 energy efficient stoves built in Latin America to date, including an entyre community in Ecuador
  • 10 schools built and 20 schools entyrely funded by GVI and the Charitable Trust
  • Our partners include some of the world’s most well respected and well recognised organisations such as the Jane Goodall Institute, Dian Fossey Gorilla Foundation, Kenya Wildlife Service and Rainforest Concern
  • In 2011, GVI Thailand won a national award for the provision of education at the Ao Luk Non-Formal Education Centre
  • Our partners – Amigos de Sian Ka’an (Mexico) and the Yachana Foundation (Ecuador) – have both won the Whitley Award for Conservation
  • We conduct the only dolphin research program in Kenya
  • GVI Kenya registered the first confirmed sighting of Dugong on Kenya’s south coast in over 10 years
  • We have published papers on the use of unskilled volunteers to collect viable scientific data, South Africa reserve management and impacts of habitat change in the Neo-Tropics
  • We have been internationally recognised and mentioned by BBC Wildlife Magazine, Jaguar Conservation Fund and the peer-reviewed Mesoamericana international journal
  • Together with in-country partners, Amigos de Sian Ka’an, we are the largest contributors to the Meso American barrier reef conservation program
  • Since 2007, GVI Thailand have delivered over 6,200 hours of English classes to adult students as well as assistance for almost 10,000 children in 22 primary and secondary schools in Southern Thailand
