Volunteering in Ecuador
Taking its name from the fact it straddles the equator; Ecuador is the smallest of the Andean nations yet it contains some of the most startling biodiversity on the planet, boasting an awe-inspiring range of flora and fauna that includes 15% of known bird species and 6000 species of butterfly. Also the home of contrasting panoramas, from thick rainforests to spellbinding volcanic landscapes, legendary tropical beaches to ice-capped peaks; Ecuadors landscapes are as varied as its wildlife.
Within the stunning vistas and remarkable biodiversity is a country with a rich cultural heritage and when volunteering in Ecuador you can experience South American indigenous culture first-hand, in the many small villages whose existence has been left virtually untouched by the passage of time. Wander the cobbled streets of fine colonial cities marvelling at beautiful architecture, explore Quito Old Towns remarkably preserved churches and monasteries or watch a traditional Andean band in the evening; with such an amazing tapestry of history, geography and wildlife Ecuador is a fantastic destination in which to volunteer abroad.
