About Arequipa
Arequipa, one of the most beautiful colonial cities in Latin America, is situated at the foot of three huge volcanoes: El Misti, Pichu Pichu and Chachani. Standing at an altitude of 2300m, the climate is very pleasant and the majority of the days are bathed in sunshine. Arequipa has had some form of human civilization for the past 6,000 years, so has a rich history that has left its mark in the art and architecture of the city. The colonial buildings, mostly white due to being built with sillar (white volcanic pumice), beautiful churches and the splendid Plaza de Armas, make for some interesting exploration within the town. The surrounding valleys, volcanoes, mountains and deserts give you the chance to go on some excellent weekend excursions.
