Emma's adventure so far
It’s been a great couple of weeks here in Playa! It’s hard to believe I’m already halfway though my internship. During the week I have spent the majority of my time at the Ludoteca where I help with homework, plan English and Green Action lessons, play games with the children, and have an all around great time.
Last week, I was able to accompany the children from the Ludoteca on a trip to Xcaret,
where we learned all about the traditions of Dia de los Muertos. It was a fun evening full of dancing, face painting, and altar decorating.
On the weekends when I am not volunteering at the Equine Therapy Center, I’ve been able to take advantage of the beautiful sights close by. I was able to visit ancient ruins and snorkel in a cave cenote, but my personal favorite trip was a four day excursion to Cozumel, where I went on my first open water dive and saw plenty of barracuda and green sea turtles.
While these past six weeks half flown by, there is still plenty left to do! Next weekend two of the interns and I will be volunteering as a Marshal for the PGA Golf Tour in Cancun to help raise money for the special needs school. We also have the Charitable Trust approaching, where we hope to exceed our fundraising goal and donate to the Ludoteca, the Special Needs School, and our partner project, Coco’s Cat Rescue.
After the fundraising events, I am planning on taking a trip to Isla Mujeres and snorkel the underwater sculpture museum. I have been fortunate to do so much these past few weeks, but I still cannot wait for the remaining weeks ahead!
