Qualify while you travel with GVI

01 December 2007

Global Vision International (GVI), one of the world’s most exciting and progressive volunteering organisations, is now giving volunteers the chance to gain a BTEC qualification in the Supervision of Biological Surveys, while they travel with GVI.

The Level 3 BTEC Advanced Certificate can be completed during a five or ten week GVI expedition on either the ‘Rainforest Conservation and Community Development Expedition’ in Ecuador, or the ‘Wildlife Research Marine Mammal Studies and Community Development Expedition’ in Kenya from January 11th 2008 onwards.

Volunteers on these expeditions will have the chance to become members of research teams working alongside students and teachers and get involved in a range of projects involving scientific investigation and education in Ecuador and experience dolphins, primates, safari and sustainable development in Kenya.

Steve Gwenin, GVI’s International Field Director, who runs the expeditions, comments: “We’ve been developing the BTEC qualification for a while, and we’re really excited that the UK’s largest awarding body Edexel has given us the accreditation to offer the BTEC on our expeditions. One of the most exciting aspects of the BTEC will be the ability to offer the qualifications to local nationals who attend GVI’s expeditions worldwide for free as part of our commitment to the communities and partners we work with and to the sustainability of the work we do.”

“Many of our volunteers travel with us on a gap year so being able to gain an additional qualification whilst traveling will be a great boost to their CV, provide them with relevant experience when looking for a career change or provide additional skills when applying for their first job.”
