The expedition is located at the Caño Palma Biological Station owned and managed by one of GVI Costa Rica’s main partners COTERC. The station is 7 km north of Tortuguero village (20 min boat ride) and set in a small forest clearing along Cano Palma canal. Opposite the canal and 200 m to the east is the beach, which is separated from Tortuguero beach by a river. All travel in this area is by motorized boat or canoe. San Jose (capital) is 6 hours away by combination of public boat and bus.

Description

The role is to assist the Expedition staff in the running and operation of all aspects of the Expedition: helping with science and community programmes, logistics, training of Expedition Members, maintenance of boats and equipment, keeping high standards of health and safety.

Qualifications Required

  • 10 weeks experience of expedition life(preferably tropical forest experience), enthusiastic, flexible, know survey and monitoring techniques. Spanish would be an advantage as would an RYA II motor boat driving qualification.
