Description
The Programme Coordinator will have full responsibility for all aspects of GVI’s Amazon expedition in co-ordination with the Director of Programmes. The successful candidate will direct all areas of the conservation and community development expedition, which include overseeing health and safety, logistics, science, community assistance programme, local partner co-ordination, all staff (up to 6), all volunteers (up to 18), report writing, funding and budgets. Time will be divided between running the in-country office from Quito and managing the team of staff and volunteers in the field on the Napo River.

Responsibilities
- Manage all GVI staff and volunteers on the expedition
- Supply training and development for GVI staff and volunteers
- Liaise with local partners, Director of Programmes and GVI Head Office
- Oversee Health and Safety and ensure implementation
- Oversee and manage the expedition budget
- Manage all report writing and formal communications
- Oversee all aspects of the science and community assistance programmes
Qualifications Required
- Fluent English speaker
- Fluent or very proficient Spanish skills
- Degree in relevant biological and/or community development subject
- Strong leadership skills and experience managing a remote expedition or programme
- Volunteer management experience
- Scientific field research experience including a range of survey techniques
- Experience of high quality report writing, public speaking and overseeing budgets
- Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite including Access and PowerPoint
- Current First Aid & CPR qualification
- Clean drivers license
Qualifications Desired
- Teaching scientific survey techniques
- Tropical rainforest experience
- Experience mist-netting and handling birds and/or bats
- Amphibian or small mammal trapping and handling experience
- Teacher qualification in the fields of biological sciences, conservation, environmental education or community development
- TEFL/TESOL qualification
- Experience running environmental education programmes
- Emergency First Aid (EFR) Instructor qualification
- Proficiency in SPSS and GIS ArcView packages
- Proficiency in MS Publisher, designing websites, databases, or on-line tools
- Professional accounting skills

Conditions
Long term contract is subject to a successful 4-week paid trial period in country. Personal medical insurance, including air evacuation and repatriation, is required.
