Description
The Regional University, named Centro Universitario Regional (CUCSUR) from Guadalajara University, prepares students in conventional tourism as to be employed in hotels, restaurants and government but has left aside a very important part of the tourism development that could detonate the rural, ecological and adventure tourism of the area. To be able to start with the touristic projects in these areas it is necessary to offer the inhabitants of this municipality and surrounding areas an ecologic and healthy culture of service and they must prepare in English language in order to be able to receive foreigner visitors. Therefore, this project calls volunteers with TEFL certificate to deliver English classes through Casa de la Cultura de Autlán in a rotatory manner and at the same time the volunteers will have foster families where they would live temporaly and share home activities such as cooking (learning from their foster Mom), work with their foster father in the field or elsewhere depending on his occupation and support social development projects at the Casa de la Cultura (Culture House).

Responsibilities
- English classes are addressed to two types of people. On one hand, young adults (between 25 and 35 years old) that have basic education and are interested in participating in alternative tourism projects. Some of them only have elementary or secondary education. On the other hand, there is a group of graduates that have finished senior high scool, college or university that are interested in taking the courses.
- Teaching 3 days in Autlan and 2 days in the surrounding communities.
Qualifications Required
- Previous teaching experience with minimal resources is needed. A TEFL or TESOL is also required.
Other Details
There are daily frequent transport services by bus depending on the exit point. Autlán de Navarro has internet service. There is phone service and mobile phone signal. During this season participants will have the opportunity to see and get involved in different cultural activities such as the regional fair "Feria de Zapotlán", Colima's volcano Down hill cycling contest, Day of the death festivity in Tzin Tzun Tzan(considered as UNESCO human heritage)and religious processions and festivities.
Conditions
The volunteers will receive from the community, accomodation and food from a host family during their stay. The minimum time is 4 weeks and the maximum 12, they must be of legal age (more than 18 years old). Autlán’s Culture House compromises to receive the volunteers in Autlán de Navarro and take them to the communities.
Included
- Wage covers food and accomodation. There is the posibility of visiting the Biosphere Reserve of Manantlan (30 min.), as well as the National Park of the Colima Volcano (2 hours) where you will be able to appreciate the most active volcano in Mexico. During your stay in the Municipality you will have the posibility to attend students celebrations, visit the Carlos Santana Square, bars, mountain bicycle rides or trekking beside dance classes such as ballet, fokloric or classic.
